Chlorine Decay Simulation in Water Distribution System Using EPANET

چکیده
Chlorine is used as a disinfectant in the water treatment process so that treated delivered safely to consumers. However, chlorine concentration decays when flows from plant supply point, due reaction with natural organic matter and inner surface of pipe. Low may encourage bacteria re-growth, while high can result formation harmful chemical components. Therefore, this study aims simulate complex decay using EPANET. This exercise enables determination dosage required maintain desired requirement given by World Health Organization (WHO) Ministry Health, Malaysia (MOH). A successful model an extended period simulations 72 hours enable mapping spatial temporal variations flow residue concentrations at all links nodes. Constant 3.96 mg/l node R1 has successfully satisfy WHO MOH. The nodes distribution system also depends on usage 5, size service reservoir tank distance reservoir.

Chlorine Concentration Decay in the Water Distribution System of a Town with 50000 Inhabitants
A numerical model of a water distribution network designed for a town with 50,000 inhabitants was implemented in EPANET. The paper presents a methodology for computing the chlorine residual concentration decay in the above urban size water distribution system, over a 3 days period of time. The hydraulic system fits a gravity distribution scheme, consisting of a looped network with a tank, 42 no...

Forecasting chlorine residuals in a water distribution system using a general regression neural network
In a water distribution system (WDS), chlorine disinfection is important in preventing the spread of waterborne diseases. By strictly controlling residual chlorine throughout the WDS, water quality managers can ensure the satisfaction and safety of their customers. However, due to the travel time of water between the chlorine dosing point and any strategic monitoring points, water treatment pla...
متن کاملStability and effectiveness of chlorine disinfectants in water distribution systems.
A test system for water distribution was used to evaluate the stability and effectiveness of three residual disinfectants--free chlorine, combined chlorine, and chlorine dioxide--when challenged with a sewage contaminant. The test distribution system consisted of the street main and internal plumbing for two barracks at Fort George G. Meade, MD. To the existing pipe network, 152 m (500 ft) of 1...
متن کاملEffect of temperature on pH, turbidity, and residual free chlorine in Sanandaj Water Distribution Network, Iran
One of the parameters responsible for decreased water quality in a distribution system is temperature changes. This study was conducted to examine the effect of temperature on pH, turbidity, and residual chlorine in Sanandaj, Iran, Water Distribution System. The required water samples were taken from 85 stations during April to October 2014. Sampling was carried out over 6 months and twice per ...
